Abstract: We studied the gonadogenesis, gender differentiation and early stage development of doubled haploid Japaneseflounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) by using histological sections. At 9-11 months old, the testis of doubled haploid was at stage Ⅲ, while the testis of normal Japaneseflounder develop into stage Ⅳ.

Abstract: 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) is a widespread probable human carcinogen and has been proven to have genotoxicity in assays. However, little genotoxicity information and no micronuclei induction data for 2,4,6-TCP is available from tests, especially for sex-specific differences. Following a preliminary test, a piscine peripheral erythrocyte micronucleus assay was conducted on medaka ( ) after a 28-day exposure to 2,4,6-TCP. In the present study, the mean micronuclei (MNC) frequencies of all of the groups increased in a dose-dependent manner, which indicated the potential genotoxicity of 2,4,6-TCP. Moreover, males were found to be more susceptible compared with females after a 28-day exposure to 2,4,6-TCP in all of the dosed groups above 10 μg·L . This is the first report on the potential of micronuclei induction and a sex-susceptible effect in the peripheral erythrocytes of mature fish after 2,4,6-TCP exposure.

Abstract: While the differential responses of trees to changes in climatic and environmental conditions have been demonstrated as they age, the underlying mechanisms and age control of tree growth and development are complex and poorly understood particularly at a molecular level. In this paper, we present a transcriptome analysis of , a deciduous conifer that is widely-grown in the northern hemisphere and of significant ecological and economic value. Using high-throughput RNA sequencing, we obtained about 26 million reads from the stems of 1-, 2-, 5-, 10-, 25- and 50-year-old trees. Combining these with the published Roche 454 sequencing reads and the expressed sequence tags (both mainly from embryogenic cell cultures), we assembled 26670549 reads into 146786 transcripts, of which we annotated 79182 to support investigations of the molecular basis of tree aging and adaption, somatic embryogenesis and wood formation. Using these sequences we also identified many single-nucleotide polymorphisms, simple sequence repeats, and insertion and deletion markers to assist breeding and genetic diversity studies of .

Abstract: Japanese flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) is an economically-important aquaculture flatfish in manyHowever, the lack of high-efficient genotyping tools has impeded the genomic breeding programs for Japaneseflounder. We developed a 50K Japanese flounder SNP array, "Yuxin No. 1," and report its utility in genomicflounder.
